A Rich History
Built in 1883, the Grand Victorian is one of the oldest standing buildings in Spring Lake. Its original owners constructed it as a guest house and named it The Brighton House. Between the late 19th century and 1981, the building operated as a hotel under multiple names and multiple owners. In 1981, the new owners used the house as a private residence until the building reopened as a hotel in 1990 under the name “The Grand Victorian Hotel.”
Originally, both the second-floor and third-floor guest rooms shared communal bathrooms. A 2005 renovation modernized the space to add bathrooms to the second floor (a later renovation added them to the third floor) while maintaining its historic charm. That renovation also added an in-house restaurant, now known as Amelia’s By the Sea.
In 2023, the Grand Victorian became a part of the ICONA Boutique Collection, which allows us to bring the ICONA spirit of warmth and love to our guests.
After more than 140 years, The Grand Victorian remains a strong piece of Spring Lake’s history. It offers guests a glimpse of Victorian seaside history and a place to find peace by the ocean.
